About the show

BS270

Three quarters of the way around.

What this is

BS270 is a podcast about the ideas we inherit, the systems we live inside, and the questions most people stop asking too soon.

Each episode takes one topic — political, cultural, philosophical — and tries to go somewhere honest with it. Not to settle it. Not to score points. Just to think it through out loud.

The name comes from a navigation concept: when you fly a bearing of 270 degrees, you're heading due west. Three quarters of the way around the compass. Far enough to get somewhere different. Not so far you've lost where you started.

Why BS270?

Partly the navigation bearing. Partly a nod to the fact that most public discourse stops well short of a full turn — it gets three quarters of the way around a hard question and then retreats to something comfortable.

This show tries to go the distance.

I've spent a long time thinking about why smart people disagree — not just on facts, but on what the facts mean. Why the same event looks like justice to one person and injustice to another. Why belief is so hard to change even when the evidence shifts.

BS270 is my attempt to work through those questions in public, with listeners who are willing to sit with the discomfort of not having a clean answer.

What we believe about conversation

Curiosity over certainty

The best conversations start with a genuine question, not a conclusion in search of evidence.

Complexity is not weakness

Acknowledging that something is hard doesn't mean you're avoiding it. It means you're taking it seriously.

The listener is the point

We're not here to perform. We're here to think alongside you.
